The tall and majestic J-class yachts were considered the most beautiful and advanced racing yachts of their time. Now, of the ten that were originally built during the late 1920’s and early 1930’s, only three remain: the Endeavor, the Shamrock, and the Velsheda. While the opulent yachts were a credit to sailing for their time, they were soon forgotten and either scrapped or abandoned. In 1984, the Velsheda was found in a River Hamble mud berth and restored in 1988 and again in 2001. In 2001, the three remaining J-class yachts were sailed in the America’s Cup Jubilee Regatta to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the original America’s Cuprace. Maritime photographer Philip Plisson lovingly captures the grandeur of the fully restored Velsheda in this 1500 piece puzzle. Puzzle measures 33 1/2 x 23 1/2 when complete. |
