Evening Primrose Oil contains GLA (gamma linolenic acid), which the body converts to a type of prostaglandin called PGE1. This potent anti-inflamatory, blood thinner and blood vessel dilator is helpful with diabetes, hardening of the arteries, heart disease, inflammation, the release of sex hormones including estrogen and testosterone, PMS, eczema and the lowering of cholesterol. In clinical studies of Type I and Type II diabetes patients, Evening primrose oil supplements were found to reverse the effects of altered fatty acid metabolism (Arisaka, 1991; Takahashi, 1993). Reduced nerve perfusion is an important factor in the etiology of diabetic neuropathy. Metabolic changes due to lack of perfusion include high polyol pathway flux, increased advanced glycosylation, elevated oxidative stress, and impaired omega-6 essential fatty acid metabolism. Evening primrose oil supplies gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) to improve vasodilator synthesis in diabetes, correcting nerve blood flow (Cameron, 1997). In addition, Omega-6 fatty acids also improve nerve conduction in animal models. This effect is independent from the effect on fatty acid metabolism in nerves (Head, 2000). Colonization/Fruiting Temperatures 75-85F/65-75F The Pink Oyster is an extremely fast growing mushroom that fruits easily on a wide range of ligneous substrates. The mushrooms grow in clusters of thin fleshed pink caps. The flavor improves dramatically with thorough cooking. Mushrooms tend to be sour when raw or undercooked. The Pink Oyster is more productive than the Golden Oyster with yields similar to the more common market oyster strains. These mushrooms also need plenty of fresh air to develop normally. High carbon dioxide levels from mushroom metabolism will accumulate in sealed growing environments and may reduce cap size severely. Growth starts off as a fast growing white mycelium that ages to a pink color. Primordia and youngmushrooms are bright pink but become less intensely colored as the mushroom matures. This disc is the self-healing injector site. Note: The disc will be covered by a small plastic shield. Do not attempt to remove the plastic covering the disc, you will inject through it. Sterilize a small section of the outside of the Bag (on the plastic shield) directly over the foam disc with an alcohol soaked wipe. With the same alcohol soaked wipe, sterilize the needle on your culture syringe. Inoculate the substrate with culture syringe(included) solution by inserting the needle through the plastic shield and foam disc at the previously sterilized spot and squirting 1cc of culture solution into the mixture. Mix culture solution thoroughly by shaking the syringe before injection. (Faster colonization can be achieved by squirting solution into several locations in the substrate mixture).When injection is finished, slowly remove the needle and the foam disc will seal the injection site (no need to tape). The 1997 Commission E on Phytotherapy and Herbal Substances of the German Federal Institute for Drugs recommends Hops for 'Mood disturbances such as restlessness and anxiety, sleep disturbances.' 'Single dosage of drug: 0.5 g. Mode of Administration: Cut drug, powdered drug or dry extract powder for infusions or decoctions or other preparations. Liquid and solid preparations for internal use. Note: Combinations with all other sedatives can be beneficial. Actions: Calming; Sleep promoting.' The contemporary British Herbal Compendium indicates Hops use for excitability, restlessness, disorders of sleep, and lack of appetite, as does the European Scientific Cooperative on Phytotherapy and the German Standard License. Hops are high in the bitter principles humulone and lupulone. These are thought to be responsible for the appetite-stimulating properties of hops. Hops also contain about 1–3% volatile oils. Hops have been shown to have mild sedative properties. Many herbal preparations for insomnia combine hops with other sedative herbs, such as valerian, passion flower and scullcap. Grieve's classic 'A Modern Herbal': 'Hops have tonic, nervine, diuretic and anodyne properties. Their volatile oil produces sedative and soporific effects, and the Lupamaric acid or bitter principle is stomachic and tonic. For this reason Hops improve the appetite and promote sleep.' 'The official preparations are an infusion and a tincture. The infusion is employed as a vehicle, especially for bitters and tonics: the tincture is stomachic and is used to improve the appetite and digestion. Both preparations have been considered to be sedative, were formerly much given in nervousness and hysteria and at bedtime to induce sleep; in cases of nervousness, delirium and inflammation being considered to produce a most soothing effect, frequently procuring for the patient sleep after long periods of sleeplessness in overwrought conditions of the brain.'
