Ginger Root 500 mg 60 capsules: K
Ginger is most commonly used to relieve the pains of gas and cramping in the abdominal and intestinal areas. It is also effective in relieving menstrual cramps. Ginger has long been recommended as a regulator of blood cholesterol to improve circulation, especially to the extremities. Research has found that Ginger may help prevent strokes and hardening of the arteries. Ginger is a cleansing herb and is useful in respiratory conditions. It is a kidney stimulant, increasing kidney filtration. Dried ginger is a traditional pungent spice used worldwide to flavor breads, sauces, curry dishes, confections, pickles, and ginger ale. Ginger is used medically to help expel gas from the intestines and treat nausea from morning sickness, upset stomach, seasickness, and motion sickness. It is also used to help reduce fevers and lessen the symptoms of colds. The 1997 Commission E on Phytotherapy and Herbal Substances of the German Federal Institute for Drugs recommends Ginger root for 'Dyspepsia, prevention of motion sickness.' 'Contraindications: With gallstones, only to be used after consultation with a physician.' 'Daily dosage: 2 - 4 g rhizome; equivalent preparations. Mode of Administration: Chopped or comminuted rhizome and dry extracts for teas, other galenical preparations for internal use.' 'Actions: Antiemetic; Positively inotropic; Promoting secretion of saliva and gastric juices;Cholagogue. In animals: antispasmodic. In humans: increase in tonus and peristalsis in intestines.' Ginger's ability to prevent vomiting has been verified by clinical trial, and it has been shown to stimulate the intestines and promote production of saliva, digestive juices, and fat-processing bile. It also tends to boost the pumping action of the heart. Grieve's classic 'A Modern Herbal': 'Stimulant, carminative, given in dyspepsia and flatulent colic excellent to add to bitter infusions; specially valuable in alcoholic gastritis; of use for diarrhoea from relaxed bowel where there is no inflammation.' 'Ginger Tea is a hot infusion very useful for stoppage of the mensesdue to cold, externally it is a rubefacient.' 'Dosage: Infusion: ½ oz. bruised or powdered root to 1 pint boiling water is taken in 1 fluid ounce. Dose, 10 to 20 grains.' 'Preparation: Fluid extract, 10 to 20 drops. Tincture, B.P., ½ to 1 drachm. Syrup, B.P. and U.S.P., ½ to 1 drachm. Oleoresin, U.S.P., ½ grain.' King's 1898 Dispensatory: 'Ginger is stimulant, rubefacient, errhine, and sialagogue. When chewed it occasions an increased flow of saliva, and when swallowed it acts as a stimulating tonic, stomachic, and carminative, increasing the secretion of gastric juice, exalting the excitability of the alimentary muscular system, and dispelling gases accumulated in the stomach and bowels.' 'It is eminently useful in habitual flatulency, atonic dyspepsia, hysteria, and enfeebled and relaxed habits, especially of old and gouty individuals; and is excellent to relieve nausea, pains and

Cinnamon Powder Korintje A grade 3% oil (Cinnamomum cassia; Rou Gui Pi) 1 lb: K
This is Frontier's nitrogen-flushed double wall silverfoil pack. Some Frontier packs are double wall wax-lined paper. Although in Europe and the U.S. cinnamon is most often associated with sweet dishes, it has broad culinary uses. For example, in India, cinnamon is never used with desserts, but is the main ingredient in curries. In North Africa, not only is cinnamon an ingredient in Raz-el-Hanout, the flavoring of couscous and tagines, but appears also in Berber spices. In Greece, it appears in lamb dishes. And it is an essential spice in Chinese cuisine. Ground, it is one of the constituents of five-spice powder; whole, it is frequently added to flavor braised dishes. In the Caribbean, it is in Jerk seasoning. In Mexico, it appears with chocolate and chili powder in Mole sauces. In the U.S., it is used in barbecue rubs and sauces. Cinnamon is the bark of three bushy evergreen trees of the laurel (Lauraceae) family. The most fragrant and delicate cinnamon is obtained from the Cinnamomum zeylanicum tree native to Sri Lanka (which used to be called 'Ceylon'), the western coast of India (known asthe Malabar coast), and Burma. Zeylanicum cinnamon is sometimes called 'true cinnamon' and 'old fashioned cinnamon.' But the 'true' part was just advertising copy for the Dutch East India Company's 17th century monopoly. Cinnamon is also derived from the Cinnamomum loureirii tree native to Indonesia and the Cinnamomum cassia tree native to China, Vietnam, and Sumatra. The cinnamon from the loureirii and cassia trees is darker and more pungent and aromatic than cinnamon from the zeylanicum tree. Cassia cinnamon is what most Americans are used to and is the preferred cinnamon in Southern Europe. So don't let the term 'true cinnamon' confuse you; cassia cinnamon is just as true as zeylancium. Neither Grieve, King nor Felter distinguish the cinnamon varieties medicinally – Grieve simply asserting that they all act alike, and King's covers all varieties in one listing, as 'The barks of numerous species of Cinnamomum.' Medicinally, they all act the same, although there are subtle taste differences. Cassia cinnamon has a more intense and less fragrant aroma than zeylanicum (Ceylon) cinnamon. It is sweet, warm, pungent, and slightly astringent. Zeylanicum (Ceylon) cinnamon is pale in color, and more delicate, more fragrant, not as pungent, and not as sweet. It has a slight citrus flavor. Zeylanicum (Ceylon) cinnamon is more expensive than cassia, and better to use in sweet dishes and cakes. Cassia nips the tongue and is more suited to spiced meats, stews, rice dishes, curries, pancake and waffle batters, cinnamon rolls, and flavored drinks. Cassia cinnamon sticks are reddish brown, thick, and coarse in texture. They are the sticks Americans are accustomed to and use in mulled cider and wine. Zeylanicum cinnamon sticks are pale in color, thin, and look like a roll of dried paper; they are delicate and crumble easily. Cassia cinnamon, depending on it

Grape Seed Extract (Vitis vinifera) 60 vegicaps: K
Promotes Antioxidant Activity This is Grape Seed Extract, from juice grapes, Vitis vinifera, that is standardized to yield 95 mg (95%) proanthocyanidins (PCOs). PCOs are a special class of water soluble bioflavonoids that are potent antioxidants. Insome comparative tests, PCOs were found to be 50 times more potent than Vitamin E and 20 times more potent than Vitamin C. The oxygen atom, which in a stable state has four pairs of electrons, becomes unstable when it loses an electron. An oxygen atom with seven electrons is referred to as a free radical. Free radicals quickly attach themselves to body tissues in order to stabilize themselves. The free radical takes an electron from the membrane of a body tissue and by doing so, produces yet another free radical, which then is obliged by its charge to seek out another electron - in your body. What results is a cascade of oxidations - literally rusting body tissues. Free radical oxidation is a contributory factor in much chronic degenerative disease. PCOs protect skin from sun damage. Many European skin creams feature grape seed extract as an aid to skin elasticity. PCOs help keep collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid healthy by blocking enzymes that disrupt their chemical structure. This can be of profound use to theose who suffer from eczema and psoriasis. PCOs prevent blood platelet stickiness better than aspirin, and thus can be of significant help to those with heart problems. PCOs are commonly prescribed by physicians in Europe for various disorders that are likely to benefit from increased blood flow, such as diabetes, leg cramps and varicose veins. PCOs support capillary strength. Weak capillaries can contribute to bruising, elastin and collagen dysfunction, edema and circulatory insufficiencies. Repeated double-blind tests have shown PCOs to quickly improve capillary strength in the elderly. Human clinical studies show that 300 mg per day can quickly repair ruptured capillaries, thus alleviating water retention and such effects of edema as puffy eyes, swollen feet, and the bloating associated with premenstrual syndrome. Grape seed extract improves blood flow in the eye's capillaries, and thus is prescribed for eye problems of the elderly, such as macular degeneration and cataracts. By protecting immune cells against enzyme degradation, PCOs alleviate allergies and hayfever. PCOs can also lower cholesterol and prevent LDL oxidation. PCOs prevent LDL cholesterol oxidation better than vitamin C, and prevent bacteria from adhering to urinary tract membranes.

Wasabi Powder Blend 1 lb: K
This is Frontier's nitrogen-flushed double wall silverfoil pack. Some Frontier packs are double wall wax-lined paper. Horseradish, mustard and wasabi. Wasabi (Wasabia japonica syn. Eutrema japonica) is a uniquely flavored condiment traditionally served with raw fish (sushi and sashimi) and noodle (soba) dishes in Japan. The ground root-like rhizome pungently flavors many foods in Japanese cuisine, and its bright green color adds color contrast, for which Japanese dishes are famous. Versatile Wasabi is used as an ingredient in marinades, dips, dressings, and sauces. Unlike chili pepper, Wasabi's delicious hot taste is very short-lived, subsiding into an extremely pleasant, mild vegetable taste that even pepper-haters love.
