This is Frontier's nitrogen-flushed double wall silverfoil pack. Some Frontier packs are double wall wax-lined paper. Chai tea is a delightful blend of herbs, spices and fine black teas. Chai refers to black tea that is brewed with milk and aromatic spices, giving it a very distinctive taste. Chai tea is usually generously sweetened; try adding a pinch of cinnamon or a dash of vanilla; try serving it cold. Chai is often brewed as a decoction, that is, bolied in the tea water, then mixed with milk, sweetener and strained. The phrase 'Black Tea' is used as a generic name for all Camelia sinensis teas. The major Black Tea types, from the traditional black tea evergeen (Camellia sinensis), classified according to processing method, include: fermented, or black, tea, producing an amber-coloured, full-flavoured beverage without bitterness; semi-fermented, or oolong, producing a slightly bitter, light brownish-green liquid; and unfermented, or green, tea, resulting in a mild, slightly bitter, pale greenish-yellow beverage. Green tea should be steeped in very hot, but not boiling, water. Boiling water will scorch the delicate flavor, rendering it bitter. Green tea comes mainly from China, Japan, Taiwan and, to a lesser degree, India. The critical difference between green and black tea is that green tea leaves are not allowed to ferment. Green tea is, instead, steamed, rolled and fired. Green tea is the natural dried leaves of the tea plant, Camellia sinensis. Black tea is oxidized green tea. Green tea is not graded similar to black tea but classified according to age, style of the leaf and manufacture, e.g., Gunpowder, Pan-fired, Young Hysson, Bancha, etc. Since green tea, unlike black and oolong tea, is not fermented, the active constituents remain unaltered in the herb. Green tea is bioflavonoid-rich, proven useful for fighting free radical damage in the human body. It has a high content of polyphenols, which are a class of bioflavonoids. Green tea's best studied polyphenol is Epigallocatechin Gallate. Epigallocatechin Gallate (EGCG), protects against digestive and respiratory infections. A solution of 1 mcg per ml of EGCG heavily inhibited influenza virus in vitro. Green tea is beneficial in reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease as it exerts antioxidant activity, lowers cholesterol and reduces platelet aggregation (stickiness). Green tea extract is very good for the arteries and heart. Additional studies have demonstrated enhanced liver functionand immune system function secondary to these polyphenols. Tea contains only four calories per cup when consumed without added ingredients but is a source of several B-complex vitamins, including B2 and nicotinic acid. Caffeine is responsible for tea's stimulating effect. Flavour is produced by volatile oils, and astringency and colour by tannin. It has also been reported to induce a non-narcotic feeling of well-being. It is traditionally used fresh or dried in teas and soups. The dried ''conks'' have an attractive varnish-like appearance and can be used in dried flower and seedpod arrangements. Our culture filled syringes are guaranteed clean and viable. They are created with pure isolated culture of mushroom mycelium suspended in a nutrient solution inside a hypodermic syringe. Culture syringes are useful for inoculating sterile substrates, liquid cultures and agar. Our current batch of offered culture syringes utilizes B-D 10cc syringes with luer-lock and 16ga 1-1/2 inch needles. This is Frontier's nitrogen-flushed double wall silverfoil pack. Some Frontier packs are double wall wax-lined paper. Carob, or St. John's Bread, is a large (4-12 inch long) dried, bean-like pod. The long-lived evergreen kharrub (Arabic for 'pod') tree produces carob pods, which contain flat, shiny seeds protected in a sweet juicy pulp. Carob bean gum, also called locust bean gum, is made from the crushed whole pods, beans and all. Locust bean gum is used in commercial food processing as a binder and gel. Carob powder, a favorite cocoa substitute, is made from the ground roasted beans only. A long roast produces a dark, bland carob powder, a shorter roast produces a lighter, stronger-tasting carob powder. Carob powder can be used to replace cocoa at levels from 25-50%. While carob performs like cocoa, it differs in sugar and fat content. Cocoa may contain up to 23% fat and 5% sugar while carob has .7% fat and a natural sugar content of 42-48%. Nutritionally, carob has none of the allergy-producing antibodies or the caffeine stimulant theobromine found in the cocoa bean. Carob contains as much vitamin B1 as asparagus or strawberries, the same amount of niacin as lima beans, lentils or peas and more vitamin A than eggplant, asparagus and beets. It is also high in vitamin B2, calcium, magnesium and iron. In addition to being a delicious and healthful foodstuff, carob powder can be used as a flavoring for your favorite pipe mix. Sugars make carob gummy and able to act as a thickener to absorb water and help bind together watery stools. Tannins from carob, being water insoluble, do not bind proteins as some tannins do. Carob tannins do bind to (and thereby inactivate) toxins and inhibit growth of bacteria. A double-blind clinical study has shown carob isuseful for treating infants with diarrhea. Carob powder, sweetened to taste in applesauce can be used for this purpose. |
