This is Frontier's nitrogen-flushed double wall silverfoil pack. Some Frontier packs are double wall wax-lined paper. Savory is like a peppery thyme. It contains the same thymol, plus some other elements. Savory is often used to spice up vegetables, such as squash, beans, potatoes and lentils. It is also a popular sausage, paté and pickle spice. Summer Savory Soup with Orzo: http://www.vegweb.com/food/soup/2545.shtml: 1 Tbsp. olive oil 2 c. various veggies - use whatever you have on hand, or: chopped green cabbage, diced cauliflower ½ onion, chopped 2 small cloves garlic, minced 3 c. water ½ veggie bullion cube ¼ c. soy milk 1 Tbsp. flour (white or wheat, your choice) ¼ tsp. (or more to taste) each of bazil, oregano, and summer savory ¾ c. orzo (small, rice-shaped pasta) Heat oil in a medium sauce pan. Add garlic and onions and cook until onions are translucent. Add diced carrots or any other slow-cooking veggies you may be using. Add water, remaining veggies, and bullion cube. Bring to a boil. Add orzo, basil and oregano, and simmer for about 15 minutes. Whisk flour into the soymilk. Reduce the heat on the soup, and stir in the flour mixture. Add the savory. Stir frequently while the soup thickens and add sea salt and black pepper to taste. Nice with toast and avocado-grapefruit salad. Black Bean Soup with Garlic and Summer Savory: http://www.cdkitchen.com/rfr/data/952956159.shtml: 2 tablespoons vegetable oil 1 cup onion, finely chopped 1 jalapeno pepper, finely chopped 3 garlic cloves, minced ½ cup summer savory leaves 6 cups cooked black beans 2 cups water 4 cups chicken stock juice of 1 lime 4 tablespoons olive oil salt and paprika to taste In hot vegetable oil, saute onions and jalapeno pepper for 3 minutes. Add garlic and half of the summer savory, and saute for another 3 minutes. Add 2 cups black beans and 2 cups water. Saute, mixing constantly, until all water is absorbed by the beans and mixture acquires the consistency of thick puree. This will be your roux, or base, for the soup. Add the chicken stock and boil for 5 minutes. Strain creamy liquid through fine sieve, pressing all juices and puree through. Return liquid to pot and add remaining 4 cups of beans, salt and paprika. Boil for another 5 minutes. Sprinkle with mixture of olive oil, lime juice and remaining fresh summer savoryleaves. Serve with flour tortilla chips, preferably homemade, or cut store-bought flour tortillas into wedges and deep fry for 5 minutes in very hot vegetable oil.
