The 1997 Commission E on Phytotherapy and Herbal Substances of the German Federal Institute for Drugs recommends White Willow Bark for 'Diseases accompanied by fever, rheumatic ailments, headaches.' Average daily dosage corresponding to 60 - 120 mg total salicin. Mode of Administration: Liquid and solid preparations for internal use. Note: Combinations with diaphoretic drugs could be considered. Actions: Antipyretic; Antiphlogistic; Analgesic.' Willow bark is official in the German Pharmacopeia. In German pediatric medicine, willow bark is used as an antipyretic component of various herbal preparations, particularly in combination with diaphoretic herbs. Although occasionally substituted for the cinchona bark, it is inferior in activity.' 'In chronic diarrhoea and dysentery, the tonic and astringent combination of the willow renders it very eligible.
