Promotes Urinary Tract Health Cranberry Whole Fruit nutritionally supports healthy urinary tract function. For many decades cranberry juice has been thought to reduce bacterial infections of the bladder. Studies in recent years have confirmed this, showing that cranberry juice inhibits adherence of E. coli cells to cells lining the bladder, rendering them harmless. Cranberry has been shown to reduce bacteria levels in the urinary bladders of older women significantly better than placebo. Two different active constituents have been identified, fructose and a large polymeric compound. This is Plum Flower brand's nitrogen-flushed vacuum pack. Plum Flower is one of the most distinguished herb houses in the world. Sulfur Free, Chlorine Free, Aluminum Phosphate Free. Sulfites are used to give herbs the appearance of freshness. As with dried fruit. un-sulfured herbs look different than those that are adulterated with preservatives. Herbs that are preservative free are more natural looking and are generally darker. The brightness of the herbs may be appealing, but it indicates the presence of harmful additives. Despite their appearance, unsulfured herbs are more fresh and safer than regular commercially available products. The use of sulfur, chlorine and aluminum phosphate was made unnecessary through the establishment of Plum Flower processing stations in China. Herbharvesters slice and process the herbs fresh, avoiding the need to rehydrate dried herbs later to process. This first step is crucial, as rehydration leads to decomposition and thus the need for preservatives. The herbs are then packed and the packages vacuum-packed, injected with nitrogen, and sealed. The nitrogen process combined with the lack of sulfur treatment inhibits the growth of anaerobic organisms, resulting in safer, higher quality herbs. After opening, store in a cool dry place. The facilities in Lanzhou and Guang Zhou, China, scientifically test each batch of herbs before, during and after the processing to make sure that all the active ingredients are present. Herbs are also tested to ensure that the formulas surpass all FDA guidelines regarding heavy metals. Those herbs exported to the U.S. are voluntarily submitted to the FDA for approval. Finally, batches are regularly sent out for quality control testing in third-party labs to double-ensure that Plum Flower products are 100% free of pharmaceuticals, preservatives and dyes. The Lanzhou and Guang Zhou factories are so clean, they are certified by the Australian Government’s Therapeutic Goods Administration (GMP). Slippery Elm Bark is a soothing, astringent demulcent, useful for ulcers, gastritis, colitis, diarrhea and other intestinal problems. A terrific throat-soother in bronchitis (see Grieve's recipe below). It is also an easily digested food for convalescence. Grieve's classic 'A Modern Herbal': 'Demulcent, emollient, expectorant, diuretic, nutritive. The bark of this American Elm, though not in this country as in the United States an official drug, is considered one of the most valuable remedies in herbal practice, the abundant mucilage it contains having wonderfully strengthening and healing qualities.' 'It not only has a most soothing and healing action on all the parts it comes in contact with, but in addition possesses as much nutrition as is contained in oatmeal, andwhen made into gruel forms a wholesome and sustaining food for infants and invalids. 'A Slippery Elm compound excellent for coughs is made as follows: Cut obliquely one or more ounces of bark into pieces about the thickness of a match; add a pinch of Cayenne flavour with a slice of lemon and sweeten, infusing the whole in a pint of boiling water and letting it stand for 25 minutes. Take this frequently in small doses: for a consumptive patient, about a pint a day is recommended. It is considered one of the best remedies that can be given as it combines both demulcent and stimulating properties. Being mucilaginous, it rolls up the mucous material so troublesome to the patient and passes it down through the intestines.' 'In typhoid fever, the Slippery Elm drink, prepared as for coughs, is recommended, serving a threefold purpose, to cleanse, heal and strengthen, the patient being allowed to drink as much as desired until thirst has abated, and other remedies can be used. The leaves are very high in thiamin (B1), choline, inositol, and fumaric acid. They are a good source of ascorbic acid (C), riboflavin (B2), calcium, potassium, and phosphorus. They also provide beta carotene (A), vitamin K, niacin, iron, and rutin. The 1997 Commission E on Phytotherapy and Herbal Substances of the German Federal Institute for Drugs recommends Shepherd's Purse Herb for 'Internal: Symptomatic treatment of mild menorrhagia and metrorrhagia, topical application for nose bleeds. External: Superficial, bleeding skin injuries.' 'Average daily dosage: 10 - 15 g of drug; equivalent preparations. Topical use: 3 - 5 g of herb per ¾ cup of water as tea. Fluidextract (according to Erg. B. 6): Daily dosage: 5 - 8 g. Mode of Administration: Comminuted drug for tea and other galenical preparations for internal use and external application.' Grieve's classic 'A Modern Herbal': 'Shepherd's Purse is so called from the resemblance of the flat seed-pouches of the plant to an old-fashioned common leather purse. It is similarly called in France Bourse de pasteur, and in Germany Hirtentasche.' 'In modern herbal medicine the whole plant is employed, dried and administered in infusion, and in fluid extract.' 'A homoeopathic tincture is prepared from the fresh plant.' 'When dried and infused, it yields a tea which is still considered by herbalists one of the best specifics for stopping haemorrhages of all kinds - of the stomach, the lungs, or the uterus, and more especially bleeding from the kidneys.' 'Its haemostyptic properties have long been known and are said to equal those of ergot and hydrastis. During the Great War, when these were no longer obtainable in German commerce, a liquid extract of Capsella bursapastoris was used as a substitute, the liquidextract being made by exhausting the drug with boiling water. Bomelon found the herb of prompt use to arrest bleedings and flooding, when given in the form of a fluid extract, in doses of 1 to 2 spoonfuls.'
