This is Plum Flower brand's nitrogen-flushed vacuum pack. Plum Flower is one of the most distinguished herb houses in the world. Sulfur Free, Chlorine Free, Aluminum Phosphate Free. Sulfites are used to give herbs the appearance of freshness. As with dried fruit. un-sulfured herbs look different than those that are adulterated with preservatives. Herbs that are preservative free are more natural looking and are generally darker. The brightness of the herbs may be appealing, but it indicates the presence of harmful additives. Despite their appearance, unsulfured herbs are more fresh and safer than regular commercially available products. The use of sulfur, chlorine and aluminum phosphate was made unnecessary through the establishment of Plum Flower processing stations in China. Herb harvesters slice and process the herbs fresh, avoiding the need to rehydrate dried herbs later to process. This first step is crucial, as rehydration leads to decomposition and thus the need for preservatives. The herbs are then packed and the packages vacuum-packed, injected with nitrogen, and sealed. The nitrogen process combined with the lack of sulfur treatment inhibits thegrowth of anaerobic organisms, resulting in safer, higher quality herbs. After opening, store in a cool dry place. The facilities in Lanzhou and Guang Zhou, China, scientifically test each batch of herbs before, during and after the processing to make sure that all the active ingredients are present. Herbs are also tested to ensure that the formulas surpass all FDA guidelines regarding heavy metals. Those herbs exported to the U.S. are voluntarily submitted to the FDA for approval. Finally, batches are regularly sent out for quality control testing in third-party labs to double-ensure that Plum Flower products are 100% free of pharmaceuticals, preservatives and dyes. The Lanzhou and Guang Zhou factories are so clean, they are certified by the Australian Government’s Therapeutic Goods Administration (GMP). Vitamin E is an essential vitamin and powerful antioxidant that helps protect cells from free radical damage and enhances the antioxidant activity of molecules. Vitamin E is actually an umbrella term for a group of compounds called tocopherols and tocotrienols. The all natural Vitamin E d-alphatocopherol with mixed tocopherols selected by Thompson is the most biologically active form of Vitamin E available. Vitamin E is an antioxidant, protecting cells by deactivating or destroying the potentially damaging oxygen molecules called free radicals. Vitamin E also helps in the formation of red blood cells and facilitates the use of the trace mineral selenium and vitamins A and K. Vitamin E is an antioxidant that protects cell membranes and other fat-soluble parts of the body, such as low-density lipoprotein (LDL 'bad' cholesterol) cholesterol, from damage. Only when LDL is damaged does cholesterol appear to lead to heart disease, and vitamin E is an important antioxidant protector of LDL. Several studies have reported that 400 to 800 IU of natural vitamin E per day reduces the risk of heart attacks. Vitamin E-rich foods are the optimal way to ensure adequate levels of this nutrient in the body. Wheat germ, almonds, peanuts, vegetable oils (safflower, corn, soybeans), green leafy vegetables, and walnuts are just a few prime sources. Given that many of these foods are also high in fat and calories, however, it's also worth considering a vitamin E supplement of 400 IU daily. It also an invaluable addition to many sauces, stews, chutneys, breads and casseroles. Mustard is usually made with crushed or ground mustard seeds, vinegar, and wine. Honey or sugar are often added for sweetness, herbs and spices to taste. Tarragon is a frequent addition to mustard recipes, as is turmeric, which gives a bright yellow color. 'Mustard' refers to several Brassica species that are valued for their spicy and pungent dried seeds. Native to Eurasia, the species is widely cultivated in Europe and North America. Black mustard is Brassica nigra, also called Sinapis nigra. Brown mustard is Brassica juncea, also called Sinapis juncea. White mustard is Brassica alba, also called Sinapis alba. The pungency of white mustard (Sinapis alba) is stable, and does not diminish over time, whereas the pungency of black musatard (Sinapis nigra), although initially stronger than that of white mustard, diminishes upon long standing due to hydrolysis. Black mustard seeds, therefore, are used for strong and spicy mustards, and are understood to have a shorter shelf-life than mustard made from white seeds. Brown or Sarepta mustard (Sinapis juncea) is also called Indian mustard and Russian mustard. Due to the relative ease with which it is mass produced, Brown mustard is the most commonly found Western mustard seed. It furnishes a fine, yellow flour. Add remaining ingredients, bring to boil, then simmer on very low fire for about 45 minutes. Put into sterilized jars and seal when cold. Serve with leftover beef or mutton or ham, or as a side dish to anything curried.
