This is Frontier's nitrogen-flushed double wall silverfoil pack. Some Frontier packs are double wall wax-lined paper. Also called pink trumpet tree. Used as an infusion, decoction, extract, tincture, skin poultice and bath. Pau d’Arco is used internally as a tonic and immunosupportive, and exteranlly for skin support and inflammation. The common name Pau d’Arco is used to refer to more than one species of tree. Tabebuia heptaphylla, pink trumpet tree, is used the same way in herbal medicine as the closely related and chemically similar Tabebuia impetiginosa, purple trumpet tree. Lapachol, for instance, Pau d’Arco's most studied constituent, is commercially extracted from both the pink and purple trumpet tree. Native peoples in Central and South America have long used Pau D'Arco tree bark to treat many conditions. Pau D'Arco is a rich source of iron, which contributes to the elimination of wastes from the body and the assimilation of nutrients. Lapachol is known to support the immune system, and it also has antifungal, antibacterial and antibiotic properties. It has been used to treat immune deficiency disorders, cardiovascular problems and high blood pressure. The USDA's Phytochemical Database identifies lapachol as having a broad spectrum of immunosupportive activity, inclduing being anticarcinomic, anti-inflammatory, antimalarial, antiabscess, antiseptic, antitumor, antiviral, bactericide, fungicide and viricide. Besides lapachol, Pau d'Arco contains at least 20 other active constituents. It has clearly demonstrated broad clinical applications against a large number of disease-causing micro-organisms, which explains its wide array of uses in herbal medicine. Its action seems to come from increasing oxygen supply at the local level, destroying bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites. Several clinical trials have shown Pau d'Arco to be effective against various disease-causing microbes and fungi, including tuberculosis, pneumonia, Candida, Trichophyton, Brucella, Staphylococcus, dysentery and strep. Pau d'Arco also has demonstrated antiviral, anti-parasitic and anti-inflammatory properties. I've observed it in the clinic, and am almost certain that it was related to a woman who drank the tea for many months.' This is Starwest's nitrogen-flushed double wall silverfoil pack. Used as an infusion, decoction, extract, tincture, compress and wash. Horsetail is an effective genito-urinary astringent. It high silica content helps to heal both internal and external wounds. The 1997 Commission E on Phytotherapy and Herbal Substances of the German Federal Institute for Drugs recommends Horsetail for 'Internal: Post-traumatic and static edema. Irrigation therapy for bacterial and inflammatory diseases of the lower urinary tract and renal gravel. External: Supportive treatment for poorly healing wounds.' 'Average daily dosage: 6 g of herb; equivalent preparations. External use in compresses: 10 g of herb to 1 liter of water. Mode of Administration: Internal: Comminuted herb for infusions and other galenical preparations for oral administration. For irrigation therapy, ensure an abundant fluid intake. External: Comminuted herb for decoctions and other galenical preparations. Action: Mild diuretic.' Horsetail is rich in silicates and silicic acid. It is also rich in potassium, aluminum, manganese, and bioflavonoids. The bioflavonoids are thought to cause the diuretic action, while the silicon is thought to help strenghten connective tissue. Grieve's classic 'A Modern Herbal': 'Diuretic and astringent. Horsetail has been found beneficial in dropsy, gravel and kidney affections generally, and a drachm of the dried herb, powdered, taken three or four times a day, has proved very effectual in spitting of blood.' 'The ashes of the plant are considered very valuable in acidity of the stomach, dyspepsia, etc., administered in doses of 3 to 10 grains.' 'Besides being useful in kidney and bladder trouble, a strong decoction acts as an emmenagogue; being cooling and astringent, it is of efficacy for haemorrhage, cystic ulceration and ulcers in the urinary passages.' 'The decoction applied externally will stop the bleeding of wounds and quickly heal them, and will also reduce the swelling of eyelids.' 'Preparation and Dosage: Fluid extract, 10 to 60 drops.' 'Horsetail was formerly official under the name of Cauda equina and was much esteemed as an astringent. Culpepper quotes Galen in saying that it will heal sinews, 'though they be cut in sunder,' and speaks of it highly for bleeding of the nose, a use to which it is still put by country people.' 'Culpepper says: 'It is very powerful to stop bleeding, either inward or outward, the juice or the decoction being drunk, or the juice, decoction or distilled water applied outwardly... It also heals inward ulcers.... It solders together the tops of green wounds and cures all ruptures in children. The decoction taken in wine helps stone and strangury; the distilled water drunk two or three times a day eases and strengthens the intestines and is effectual in a cough thatcomes by distillation from the head. The crude essential oil distilled from the wood of camphor trees contains 35 to 40% camphor along with the potentially carcinogenic constituent safrol. Crude camphor oil is re-distilled to remove thesafrol and produce white camphor. White is the grade preferred in scenting detergents, soaps, disinfectants, deodorants, room sprays and other household products. Aromatherapy benefits: clarifying, energizing, purifying. Essential, absolute and resin oils are volatile, fragrant materials extracted from the root, bark, wood, seed, fruit, leaf or flower of a single plant. The plants used to produce these oils are grown on certified organic fields and are third-party certified by Quality Assurance International; no synthetic chemicals are used in growing or processing them. Steam distillation and cold pressing are used to extract the essential oil from the plant.
