Cultivation Difficulty: Easy Type: Edible Substrate: Pasteurized straw, hardwood chips and sawdust, various grains, newspaper and cardboard. Colonization/Fruiting Temperatures 75-85F/70-85F The Golden Oyster is an attractive fast growing mushroom that fruits easily on a wide range of ligneous substrates. The mushrooms grow in clusters of small, thin fleshed, funnel-shaped bright yellow caps. The flavor improves dramatically with thorough cooking. Mushrooms tend to be bitter and sour when raw or undercooked. The Golden Oyster is not as productive as other oyster mushrooms, So expect only 2 flushes before the substrate is exhausted. The temperature must be at least 65F to initiate fruiting. These mushrooms also need plenty of fresh air to develop normally. High carbon dioxide levels from mushroom metabolism will accumulate in sealed growing environments andmay reduce cap size severely. Each bag contains just over 1 pound of precooked and pre-sterilized rye berries that can be used for primary spawn generation with culture injection through the self-healing injection site. To use, unfold the Bag, allowing the extra bag material to stand straight up. Locate the small foam disk sealed and attached in a plastic housing near the base of the Bag. This disc is the self-healing injector site. Note: The disc will be covered by a small plastic shield. Do not attempt to remove the plastic covering the disc, you will inject through it. Sterilize a small section of the outside of the Bag (on the plastic shield) directly over the foam disc with an alcohol soaked wipe. With the same alcohol soaked wipe, sterilize the needle on your culture syringe. Inoculate the substrate with culture syringe(included) solution by inserting the needle through the plastic shield and foam disc at the previously sterilized spot and squirting 1cc of culture solution into the mixture. Mix culture solution thoroughly by shaking the syringe before injection. (Faster colonization can be achieved by squirting solution into several locations in the substrate mixture).When injection is finished, slowly remove the needle and the foam disc will seal the injection site (no need to tape). This is Starwest's nitrogen-flushed double wall silverfoil pack. Used as a strong decoction and as a nutritonal supplement and food additive. The bark is boiled for 15 minutes to make a thick decoction. As much as two or three cups a day can be used in cases of immediate need, and less as a daily supplement. Lemon juice or vinegar added to the boiling decoction will extract more alkaloids, and limit the tannin extraction. Cat's claw has been used medicinally by Native Amazonia for millenia. Tapioca is a refined starch obtained from the root of the cassava plant Manihot utilissima (synonym Manihot esculenta), which is also variously known as manioc and yuca, and, in the old herbals, mandioca. Cassava is native to South America, but is now extensively grown in tropical regions the world over and is among the top half dozen cash crops of the tropics. Mrs. Grieve covers the history of this originally South American food below. Cassava has a very high starch content at 24%, most of which is stored as food reserved in the root of the plant. Cassava starch has an interesting property of forming into a stringy mass once dissolved in water; so most tapioca is sold as small balls, or pearl tapioca. Pearl tapioca is manufactured by extracting the juice from cassava roots leaving just the pulp. This pulp is soaked in water, then kneaded to release as much starch as possible. The fibrous remains of the root are strained away and the resultant liquid is dropped onto a hotplate, where they dry, gelatinize and form into the familiar pearls. Tapioca is also sold in flour form, which is simply known as tapioca starch. Tapioca starch is used as a thickening agent, in much the same manner as cornflour (cornstarch), while tapioca pearls are generally used in sweet dishes. South-East Asia has become the spiritual home of pearl tapioca desserts, where a mouthwatering array of differently scented confections can be found. A tapioca drink originated in Taiwan in the 1980s.
