DL-Phenylalanine has been suggested for depression, pain and may help suppress appetite. L-phenylalanine (LPA) is used by the body to produce another amino acid, L-tyrosine, which is used by the body to produce L-dopa, norepinephrine, and epinephrine. LPA is also used by the body to produce phenylethylamine, a natural brain compound that appears to elevate mood. DLPA is a mixture of LPA and DPA (D-phenylalanine). Twinlab DLPA is a 50/50 (equivocal) mixture of D-Phenylalanine and L-Phenylalanine. This compound can powerfully influence mood and the nervous system, and should therefore be used only under medical supervision. Best taken on an empty stomach, as food protein can interfere with the uptake of phenylalanine. Untoward side effects in healthy people have not been reported with as much as 1,500 mg per day of DLPA, except for occassional upset stomach or transient headaches. Twinlab DLPA capsules are easier to swallow andassimilate. Well tolerated by the most highly allergic individuals. Free of the most common allergens.
