This is Plum Flower brand's nitrogen-flushed vacuum pack. Plum Flower is one of the most distinguished herb houses in the world. Sulfur Free, Chlorine Free, Aluminum Phosphate Free. Sulfites are used to give herbs the appearance of freshness. As with dried fruit. un-sulfured herbs look different than those that are adulterated with preservatives. Herbs that are preservative free are more natural looking and are generally darker. The brightness of the herbs may be appealing, but it indicates the presence of harmful additives. Despite their appearance, unsulfured herbs are more fresh and safer than regular commercially available products. The use of sulfur, chlorine and aluminum phosphate was made unnecessary through the establishment of Plum Flower processing stations in China. Herb harvesters slice and process the herbs fresh, avoiding the need to rehydrate dried herbs later to process. This first step is crucial, as rehydration leads to decomposition and thus the need for preservatives. The herbs are then packed and the packages vacuum-packed, injected with nitrogen, and sealed. The nitrogen process combined with the lack of sulfur treatment inhibits the growth of anaerobic organisms, resulting in safer, higher quality herbs. After opening, store in a cool dry place. The facilities in Lanzhou and Guang Zhou, China, scientifically test each batch of herbs before, during andafter the processing to make sure that all the active ingredients are present. Herbs are also tested to ensure that the formulas surpass all FDA guidelines regarding heavy metals. Those herbs exported to the U.S. are voluntarily submitted to the FDA for approval. Finally, batches are regularly sent out for quality control testing in third-party labs to double-ensure that Plum Flower products are 100% free of pharmaceuticals, preservatives and dyes. The Lanzhou and Guang Zhou factories are so clean, they are certified by the Australian Government’s Therapeutic Goods Administration (GMP). Leaves-poultice for head colds. Bark and root-decoction, infusion, or tincture for gastritis and bronchitis. Seed Oil-externally for skin conditions (e.g., wounds, sore, etc.), and rheumatism. Dried flowers--oil or decoction fragrance; as a powdered paste or with ghee, they are used for bleeding hemorrhoids and dysentery. Flowers are also used for thirst, excessive perspiration, expectorating cough, indigestion. A medium-sized to large evergreen tree with short trunk, often buttressed at the base. It grows in the Himalayas from Nepal eastwards, in north-eastern India, the Deccan Peninsula and the Andaman Islands, ascending to an altitude of 1,500 m. The stamens which yield the drug Nagakesara contain mesuferrone-A and B, mesuaferrol, mesuanic acid, a- and ß-amyrin, and ß-sitosterol. The seeds and heartwood contain a number of xanthones and coumarins1. Xanthones isolated from the plant given orally or intraperitonially have been shown to exhibit significant anti-inflammatory activity in normal as well as adrenolectomised rats. The Ethanolic extract of the plant showed diuretic and hypotensive activity. Volatile oil from the flowers showed antibacterial, antifungal and anthelmintic activities1. The essential oil from the stamen showed antifungal activity against C. tropicalis2. Essential oil from the seeds exhibited antifungal activity against a number of pathogenic fungi3. Phenolic extract of seed oil of M. ferrea revealed potent antiasthmatic effect4. LD50 in mice is 400mg/kg, i.v. and 800mg/kg, i.p. and non-toxic upto 1600mg/kg, p.o. The volatile oil from the flowers shows antibacterial, antifungal and anthelmintic activities. It exhibits significant anti-inflammatory and styptic activity. This is Starwest's nitrogen-flushed double wall silverfoil pack. Used as an infusion, decoction, extract, tincture and ointment. For skin problems, the decoction is used both internally and externally. Burdock is also used as a skin ointment. The presence of high amounts of inulin and mucilage may explain Burdock’s soothing effects on theskin and gastrointestinal tract. As King's puts it: 'Skin diseases, depending upon a depraved state of the cutaneous tissues and less upon the state of the blood itself, are conditions in which lappa has gained a reputation. It has been particularly praised in psoriasis, its use being long-continued to produce good results.' Bitter constituents in the root may also explain the traditional use of burdock to improve appetite and digestion. The herb seems to act by encouraging bile secretion, an hepatoprotective action that helps the body process water-insoluble fats. Burdock has been shown to reduce liver damage in animal studies. It also contains polyacetylenes that have been shown to have anti-microbial activity. Burdock root and fruit also have the ability to mildly lower blood sugar (hypoglycemic effect). Grieve's classic 'A Modern Herbal': 'Alterative, diuretic and diaphoretic.' 'One of the best blood purifiers. In all skin diseases, it is a certain remedy and has effected a cure in many cases of eczema, either taken alone or combined with other remedies, such as Yellow Dock and Sarsaparilla.' 'The root is principally employed, but the leaves and seeds are equally valuable.' 'Both root and seeds may be taken as a decoction of 1 oz. to 1½ pint of water, boiled down to a pint, in doses of a wineglassful, three or four times a day.' 'The anti-scorbutic properties of the root make the decoction very useful for boils, scurvy and rheumatic affections, and by many it is considered superior to Sarsaparilla, on account of its mucilaginous, demulcent nature; it has in addition been recommended for external use as a wash for ulcers and scaly skin disorders.' 'An infusion of the leaves is useful to impart strength and tone to the stomach, for some forms of long-standing indigestion.' 'When applied externally as a poultice, the leaves are highly resolvent for tumours and gouty swellings, and relieve bruises and inflamed surfaces generally. The bruised leaves have been applied by the peasantry in many countries as cataplasms to the feet and as a remedy for hysterical disorders.' 'From the seeds, both a medicinal tincture and a fluid extract are prepared, of benefit in chronic skin diseases. Americans use the seeds only, considering them more efficacious and prompt in their action than the other parts of the plant. They are relaxant and demulcent, with a limited amount of tonic property. Vetiver is a tall, tufted, perennial, scented grass with long narrow leaves and an abundant complex lacework of underground white roots. It is mainly cultivated in the tropics such as India, Tahiti, Java and Haiti. Vetiver grass was used in Calcutta for awnings, blinds and sunshades, in Java the roots were used for weaving mats and thatching huts and in Haiti the grassy parts were also used for thatching. It gave rooms an exquisite fragrance and deterred insects. Vetiver is also known as the 'oil of tranquility' because of its calming properties. It is a popular ingredient for soaps, toiletries and perfumes. The therapeutic properties of Vetiver oil are: antiseptic, antispasmodic, stimulant and nervine.
