The Black Poplar Mushroom Kit contains everything you need, including the source mushroom culture, to begin cultivating the highly desired medicinal and gourmet Black Poplar Mushroom. The foundation of this Mushroom Kit is the Wood Based Mushroom Bag. This Bag formula is comprised mostly of a select mix of hardwoods especially formulated for wood loving mushrooms, supplemented with wheat bran, and small amounts of vermiculite for water retention. Each kit will include a 3cc inoculation plunger filled with Agrocybe aegerita culture, one small Wood Based Mushroom Bag, and a thin plastic, gusseted humidity tent. The Bag is shipped with all air removed for easy packing. Each Bag contains approximately 1 pound of wet sterilized substrate. To use, simply unfold the Bag, allowing the extra material to stand straight up. Locate the small foam disk sealed and attached in a plastic housing near the base of the Bag. This disc is the self-healing injector site. Note: The disc will be covered by a small plastic shield. Do not attempt to remove the plastic covering the disc, you will inject through it. Sterilize a small section of the outside of the Bag (on the plastic shield) directly over the foam disc with an alcohol soaked wipe. With the same alcohol soaked wipe, sterilize the needle on your inoculation plunger. Inoculate the substrate (material inside the bag) with the inoculation plunger solution by inserting the needle through the plastic shield and foam disc at the previously sterilized spot. Squirt all 3cc of the culture solution directly into the substrate material. After injection, remove plunger from hole. The self-healing foam disc will seal the puncture site. DO NOT insert the needle through the white filter patch found near the top of the Bag. Place the Bag(s) in a dark location and incubate at 70-80F. It is recommend to store the Bag fully extended as developing Mycelia will give off gases that will slowly expand the interior of the Bag. This ballooning effect is crucial for proper air exchange and culture development. Note: During drier summer and winter months it is advisable to store the Bag in a humid location. Excessively dry environments may draw moisture from the Bag. Because colonization willbegin in the interior of the substrate material it may take between 14-20 days for you to notice the spreading of colonizing mycelium towards the outside of the Bag. Speed of colonization is directly affected by incubation temperatures, please check to make sure you are incubating the bag at the correct temperature. Typical colonization time is between 21-30 days. When colonization is 90% or 100% complete you will initiate the fruiting stage of the mushroom. Indian almond. One of the key ingredients in the blend known as Triphala, this herb has a bitter and pungent taste. In Ayurveda, Haritaki is depicted as being held in the hand of the Medicine Buddha and is also a sacred herb for Lord Shiva. Use of Triphala is at the heart of Ayurvedic medicine which often promotes health through successive steps of purification and tonification. Terminalia chebula is a safe and effective purgative, expectorant and tonic. It is used traditionally as a laxative and astringent, the fruit gentlyimproves bowel regularity without excessively irritating the colon. The fruits tannins protect the gut wall from irritation and infection and tend to reduce intestinal secretions. Likewise, the fruit helps to counter acidic indigestion and heartburn. King's American Dispensatory, 1898: 'They impart a green color to the saliva, and have an astringent, sourish taste. Like rhubarb, they have been found to possess both cathartic and astringent properties (Apéry), and are reputed of some value in the chronic forms of diarrhoea, dysentery, and catarrhal diseases of the bowels. The dose is from 2 to 5 grains, in pill or capsule, every 2 to 4 hours.' |

Also known as the 'Gum Arabic Tree,' this plant is astringent, demulcent, nutritive, expectorant, and also an aphrodisiac. It is traditionally used, as a strong decoction, in the treatment of gonorrhea with dropsy, cough, diarrhea, as a gargle for spongy gums, apthous stomatitis, cancer, and sore throat, or as a douche or enema in gonorrhea, cystitis, vaginitis, leucorrhea, piles, and anal prolapse. It is helpful in managing conditions involving hemmorrhagic ulcers andwounds, dysentery, diabetes mellitus, conjuctivitis, fever, burns, bleeding, catarrh, sexual debility, and genito-urinary complaints. Acacia Bark (Acacia arabica), also known as Wattle Bark, is obtained from the chief of the Australian Wattles, the Black Wattle, and is collected from wild or cultivated trees, seven years old or more, and must be allowed to mature for a year before being used medicinally. Acacia Bark contains from 24-42% of tannin (gallic acid). Acacia Bark's powerful astringency causes this herb to be extensively employed in the tanning industry. Medicinally, Acacia Bark is employed as a substitute for Oak Bark. Acacia Bark has special use in diarrhea, mainly in the form of a decoction, the British Pharmacopoeia preparation being 6 parts in 100 administered in doses of 1/2 to 2 fluid ounces. The decoction also is used as an astringent gargle, lotion, or injection. A liquid extract is prepared from the bark, administered in India for its astringent properties in doses of 1/2 to 1 fluid, but the use of both gum and bark for industrial purposes is much larger than their use in medicine. The bark, under the name of Babul, is used for tanning, and also for dyeing various shades of brown. |

Wild yam is a strong antispasmodic and is anti-inflammatory, thus helpful with the pain of rheumatoid arthritis, cramps, and upset stomach. Wild Yam is the original source of diosgenin, the steroidal saponin used for contraceptive hormone manufacture. Wild yam is helpful with the nausea of pregnant women and dysmenorrhoea. Another compound, dioscoretine, has been shown to lower blood triglycerides and to raise HDL ('good') cholesterol. An extract of wild yam was found to have antioxidant properties. Grieve's classic 'A Modern Herbal': 'Much saponin has been found in the roots, and a substance improperly called dioscorein, obtained by precipitating the tincture with water.' 'Medicinal Action and Uses: Antispasmodic. Perhaps the best relief and promptest cure for bilious colic, especially helpful in the nausea of pregnant women. Valuable also in painful cholera morbus with cramps, neuralgic affections, spasmodic hiccough and spasmodic asthma.' Dosage: ½ to 1 drachm of fluid extract. Dioscorein, ¼ to 4 grains. King’s 1898 Dispensatory: 'In former editions I have termed this agent an antispasmodic, and solely for the reason that it cures bilious colic. And I can truly say that nearly all remedies have thus been classified, not from any positive knowledge of their action, but from the results following their administration. A change of classification based upon the known action of remedies is certainly desirable, and I am glad to observe that the attention of physicians hasalready been attracted in this direction.' 'In the absence of any positive knowledge concerning the action of dioscorea, perhaps it would be better to say that it is a specific in bilious colic, having proved almost invariably successful in doses of ½ pint of the decoction, repeated every half hour, or hour. Specific dioscorea may be given in 5-drop doses every 5 minutes. No other medicine is required, as it gives prompt and permanent relief in the most severe cases (Prof. J. King). In fact it is not only of value in bilious colic, but in all forms of colic and other painful abdominal neuroses, and all forms of gastro-intestinal irritation.' 'If it does not relieve in one hour, the medicine should be discontinued. It has allayed the pain incident to the passage of biliary calculi when given with full doses of gelsemium (Webster). It has also proved valuable in painful cholera morbus attended with cramps, in neuralgic affections, in irritable conditions of the nervous system, especially when attended with pain or spasms, in spasmodic hiccough, obstinate and painful vomiting, gastralgia, and in one case of spasmodic asthma Prof. King effected a cure with it after several other means had failed.' Mandarin Orange - Traditional fruit offered as a gift to the Mandarins in ancient China. Itlends a fruity, neroli-like note to blends. Although the botanical differences between mandarin and tangerine are slight, the oils expressed from each differ in aroma and are not considered interchangeable in aromatherapy. The floral, neroli-like undertones of mandarin are evocative and sensual. Mandarin is used in combination with other citrus oils in colognes and fantasy-type perfumes. (See Tangerine.) Aromatherapy benefits: uplifting, cheering, sensual. Essential, absolute and resin oils are volatile, fragrant materials extracted from the root, bark, wood, seed, fruit, leaf or flower of a single plant. The plants used to produce these oils are grown on certified organic fields and are third-party certified by Quality Assurance International; no synthetic chemicals are used in growing or processing them. Steam distillation and cold pressing are used to extract the essential oil from the plant. Essential oils and absolutes are very potent and should always be used sparingly and in conjunction with a reliable reference.
