It helps clear the mind and improve the power of concentration. Modern clinical trials have demonstrated the usefulness of ginkgo in the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease, age-related cognitive decline and depression. Ginkgo's flavone glycosides and terpene lactones do indeed increase circulation to the brain and other parts of the body as well as exerting a protective action on nerve cells. The unique terpene lactone components found in ginkgo are known as ginkgolides and bilobalide. Ginkgolides apparently improve circulation and inhibit platelet-activating factor. Bilobalide protects the cells of the nervous system. Recent animal studies indicate that bilobalide may help regenerate damaged nerve cells. One double blind study found that ginkgo could help people with macular degeneration, an oxidation-related disorder causing decreased or lost vision. Fennel is an element of Chinese five spice powder, and is part of innumerable traditional Mediterranean, Arabic, Iranian, Indian and European recipes. Fennel's sweet earthy taste enhances meat dishes, fish, breads, pickles and vinegar. The herb is also traditional in Chinese, Arab, Indian and Western pharmacopoeias. After meals, fennel seeds are used in several cultures to prevent gas and upset stomach. Fennel was formerly an official drug in the United States and was listed as being used for indigestion and possibly for stimulating milk flow in women. Whole seeds may be chewed or used in tea. Green tea comes mainly from China, Japan, Taiwan and, to a lesser degree, India. The critical difference between green and black tea is that green tea leaves are not allowed to ferment. Green tea is, instead, steamed, rolled and fired. Green tea is the natural dried leaves of the tea plant, Camellia sinensis. Black tea is oxidized green tea. The phrase 'Black Tea' is also used as a generic name for all Camelia sinensis teas. The major Black Tea types, from the traditional black tea evergeen (Camellia sinensis), classified according to processing method, include: fermented, or black, tea, producing an amber-coloured, full-flavoured beverage without bitterness; semi-fermented, or oolong, producing a slightly bitter, light brownish-green liquid; and unfermented, or green, tea, resulting in a mild, slightly bitter, pale greenish-yellow beverage. Tea contains only four calories per cup when consumed without added ingredients but is a source of several B-complex vitamins, including B2 and nicotinic acid. Caffeine is responsible for tea's stimulating effect. Flavor is produced by volatile oils, and astringency and color by tannin. This is Plum Flower brand's nitrogen-flushed vacuum pack. Used as an infusion, decoction, extract and tincture. All parts of the flowers and leaves of the Sacred Lotus, Nelumbo nucifera, are a traditional relaxing and inebriating smoke, resembling a mild cannabis. They are aslo brewed into a delightful tea, and are also steeped in wine. The flowers are edible, the petals often placed in soups and used as a garnish. The seeds are eaten raw, roasted, candied, or popped like popcorn. The thick, starchy rhizomes are boiled, stir-fried and pickled. Lotus blossoms are sacred to Hindus and Buddhists because of their ancient sedative and shamanic function. The plants are commonly grown in Asia for the rhizomes and seeds. Asian water lotus is closely related to water lilies (Nymphaea), and is sometimes placed in the water lily family (Nymphaeaceae). Plum Flower is one of the most distinguished herb houses in the world. Sulfur Free, Chlorine Free, Aluminum Phosphate Free. Sulfites are used to give herbs the appearance of freshness. As with dried fruit. un-sulfured herbs look different than those that are adulterated with preservatives. Herbs that are preservative free are more natural looking and are generally darker.
