This is Starwest's nitrogen-flushed double wall silverfoil pack. In the Honeysuckle Family, also called Guelder Rose or High Cranberry. Used as an infusion, decoction, extract and tincture. Cramp Bark is a muscle relaxer, of use with tight uterine muscles. It can relieve painful periods, and is a protection against miscarriage. The empirical herbalists are confirmed by verifiable modern methods. Modern research has identified Cramp Bark's active ingredients, the hydroquinones arbutin, methylarbutin, as well as coumarins such as scopoletin and scopoline, and tannins, mainly catechins. Grieve's classic 'A Modern Herbal': 'The bark, known as Cramp Bark, is employed in herbal medicine. It used formerly to be included in the United States Pharmacopoeia, but is now omitted though it has been introduced into the National Formulary in the form of a Fluid Extract, Compound Tincture and Compound Elixir, for use as a nerve sedative and anti-spasmodic in asthma and hysteria.' 'In herbal practice in this country, its administration in decoction and infusion, as well as the fluid extract and compound tincture is recommended. It has been employed withbenefit in all nervous complaints and debility and used with success in cramps and spasms of all kinds, in convulsions, fits and lockjaw, and also in palpitation, heart disease and rheumatism.' 'The decoction (½ oz. to a pint of water) is given in tablespoon doses.' 'The bark is collected chiefly in northern Europe and appears in commerce in thin strips, sometimes in quills, ½0 to 1/12 inch thick, greyish-brown externally, with scattered brownish warts, faintly cracked longitudinally. It has a strong, characteristic odour and its taste is mildly astringent and decidedly bitter.' King's 1898 Dispensatory: 'High cranberry bark is a powerful antispasmodic, and, in consequence of this property, it is more generally known among American practitioners by the name of Cramp bark. It is very effective in relaxing cramps and spasms of all kinds, as asthma, hysteria, cramps of the limbs or other parts in females, especially during pregnancy, and it is said to be highly beneficial to those who are subject to convulsions during pregnancy, or at the time of parturition, preventing the attacks entirely, if used daily for the last 2 months of gestation.' 'Like Viburnum prunifolium, it is a remedy for the prevention of abortion, and to prepare the way for the process of parturition. It allays uterine irritation with a tendency to terminate in hysteria, while in the neuralgic and spasmodic forms of dysmenorrhoea, it is a favorite remedy with many physicians. It has been used in spasmodic contraction of the bladder, and in spasmodic stricture.' Lion's Mane Mushroom Grow Kit Large: SW The above photo shows our Mushroom Bag Wood Based colonizing with Hericium erinaceus, Lion's Mane Mushroom, primordia forming from puncture in Bag. The Hericium erinaceus Kit contains everything you need, including the source mushroom culture, to begin cultivating the highly sought after Lion's Mane Mushroom. The foundation of this Kit is the Wood Based Mushroom Bag. This Bag formula is comprised mostly of a select mix of hardwoods especially formulated for wood loving mushrooms, supplemented with wheat bran, and small amounts of vermiculite for water retention. Each kit will include a 10cc inoculation plunger filled with Hericium erinaceus (Lion's Mane) culture, ten small Wood Based Mushroom Bags, and a thin plastic, gusseted humidity tent. The Bag is shipped with all air removed for easy packing. Each Bag contains approximately 1 pound of wet sterilized substrate. The Lion’s Mane is a member of the unusual teethed fungi, which form tooth-like structures instead of gills. The mature mushrooms look like white, light-pink pom-poms and are often said to taste somewhat like lobster when cooked with butter. To use, simply Unfold the Bag, allowing the extra material to stand straight up. Locate the small foam disk sealed and attached in a plastic housing near the base of the Bag. This disc is the self-healing injector site. Note: The disc will be covered by a small plastic shield. Do not attempt to remove the plastic covering the disc, you will inject through it. Sterilize a small section of the outside ofthe Bag (on the plastic shield) directly over the foam disc with an alcohol soaked wipe. With the same alcohol soaked wipe, sterilize the needle on your inoculation plunger. Inoculate the substrate (material inside the bag) with the inoculation plunger solution by inserting the needle through the plastic shield and foam disc at the previously sterilized spot. Squirt 1-3cc of the culture solution directly into the substrate material. After injection, remove plunger from hole. The self-healing foam disc will seal the puncture site. DO NOT insert the needle through the white filter patch found near the top of the Bag. Place the kit's bag(s) in a dark location and incubate at 70-75F. It is recommend to store the bag fully extended as developing mycelia will give off gases that will slowly expand the interior of the Bag. This ballooning effect is crucial for proper air exchange and culture development. Note: During drier summer months it is advisable to store the Bag in a humid location. Excessively dry environments may draw moisture from the Bags. Because colonization will begin in the interior of the substrate material it may take between 14-20 days for you to notice the spreading of colonizing mycelium towards the outside of the Bag.
