Our tangerine oil is pressed from the peel of ripe fruit. It is an orange-colored oil with the vibrant fragrance of fresh tangerines. The oil isused in colognes and occasionally in perfumes (See Mandarin Orange). Astringent (must be properly diluted) for oily skin. Tangerine is a delightful addition to children's aromatherapy blends. Aromatherapy benefits: cheering, uplifting. Essential, absolute and resin oils are volatile, fragrant materials extracted from the root, bark, wood, seed, fruit, leaf or flower of a single plant. The plants used to produce these oils are grown on certified organic fields and are third-party certified by Quality Assurance International; no synthetic chemicals are used in growing or processing them. Steam distillation and cold pressing are used to extract the essential oil from the plant. Essential oils and absolutes are very potent and should always be used sparingly and in conjunction with a reliable reference. Essential oils contain the odor, taste and medicinal properties of the plant itself, but in very concentrated form, with no base oil, alcohol, water or dilutants added. |

As Grieve says, 'Preparations of Horehound are still largely used as expectorants and tonics. The contemporary British Herbal Compendium indicates its use for acute bronchitis, non-productive coughs and catarrh of the respiratory tract as well as for lack of appetite and dyspepsia, as does the French Direction de la Pharmacie et du Médicament. The 1997 Commission E on Phytotherapy and Herbal Substances of the German Federal Institute for Drugs recommends Horehound herb for 'Loss of appetite and dyspepsia, such as bloating and flatulence.' 'Daily dosage: 4.5 g of drug; 2 - 6 tbs. of pressed juice; equivalent preparations. Mode of Administration Comminuted herb, freshly expressed plant juice and other galenical preparations for internal use. Action Marrubinic acid works as a choleretic.' Horehound is a common expectorant component of European–made herbal cough remedies, such as Ricola® lozenges, that are sold in the United States. Horehound was formerly official in the United States Pharmacopeia. Grieve's classic 'A Modern Herbal': 'Preparations of Horehound are still largely used as expectorants and tonics. It may, indeed, be considered one of the most popular pectoral remedies, being given with benefit for chronic cough, asthma, and some cases of consumption.' 'For children's coughs and croup, it is given to advantage in the form of syrup, and is a most useful medicine for children, not only for the complaints mentioned, but as a tonic and a corrective of the stomach. It has quite a pleasant taste.' King's 1898 Dispensatory: 'Hoarhound is a stimulant tonic, expectorant, and diuretic. Its stimulant action upon the laryngeal and bronchial mucous membranes is pronounced, and it, undoubtedly, also influences the respiratory function.' 'It is used in the form of syrup, in coughs, colds, chroniccatarrh, asthma, and all pulmonary affections. The warm infusion will produce diaphoresis, and sometimes diuresis, and has been used with benefit in jaundice, asthma, hoarseness, amenorrhoea, and hysteria; the cold infusion is an excellent tonic in some forms of dyspepsia, acts as a vermifuge, and will be found efficient in checking mercurial ptyalism. In large doses it purges.' 'It enters into the composition of several syrups and candies. Dose of the powder, 1 drachm; of the infusion, or syrup, from 2 to 4 fluid ounces; specific marrubium, 1 to 30 drops.' Lecithin is a fat-like substance calleda phospholipid. It is produced daily by the liver, if the diet is adequate. It's needed by every cell in the body and largely makes up cell membranes; without it, they would harden. Hartroff, M.D., Ph.D., reported in the American Journal of Public Health that the lack of choline was found to head infants toward high blood pressure. Furthermore, it has been found that a choline deficiency induced tendency to high blood pressure can not be reversed. Interestingly enough, human milk contains lecithin while cow’s milk does not. Lecithin aids in the absorption of thiamine by the liver and is needed to help repair the damage to the liver caused by alcoholism. Although it is a fatty substance, it is also a fat emulsifier—lecithin enables fats, such as cholesterol, to be dispersed in water and removed from the body. Hence, it also supports the circulatory system by preventing fatty buildup in the arteries and vital organs. Without sufficient lecithin, the body cannot utilize the fat soluble vitamins A,D, E, and K. Lecithin improves the digestion and utilization of these vitamins. When a person exercises regularly to improve their muscle tone, the amount of lecithin contained in the muscles increases. This increase in muscle lecithin is in part responsible for the greater endurance of the muscle. Dr. H.
