This is Starwest's nitrogen-flushed double wall silverfoil pack. Used as an infusion, decoction, extract, tincture and poultice. Red Raspberry Leaf tea has a rich flavor similar to black tea. It is among the best known herbs for pregnancy. It contains fragrine (also called framamine), an alkaloid, which gives tone to the muscles of the pelvis and uterus. Red Raspberry is also an rich source of vitamins A, B complex, C, and E, as well as the minerals calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, and potassium. These nutrients make it an excellent prevention and treatment for anemia and leg cramps, as well as a beneficial remedy for the reduction of morning sickness. Sceletium tortuosum, also called Kougoed or Channa. This is organically grown and processed Kanna powder, and nothing else. Kanna is traditionally used as a sedative in the form of a smoke, tea, decoction or tincture. Kanna has been used by hunter-gatherers and shepherds as a mood-enhancing substance for millennia, and is far more effective and rapidly acting than the well-known European plant Hypericum (St John's Wort). Indications: Low mood, winter-blues, mood swings. Anxiety,stress, nervous tension. Alcoholic rehabilitation support. Irritability in smoking-cessation. The genus Mesembryanthemum is a popular groundcover, traditional as a sacramental herb in South Africa. For hundreds of years the Hottentots used Sceletium expansum and tortuosum as a sacramental sedative and mood enhancer called Kanna or Channa (not Cannabis). The Dutch, upon their arrival in Africa in the 1660’s, called it ‘Kougoed’ (kauwgoed) which literally means, ‘chew(able) things/goodies ‘ or ‘something to chew’. Empathogenic Effects of Sceletium tortuosum by Groot van derGros (http://www.entheogen.com/sceletium.html): The family Mesembryanthemaceae contains many pharmacologically active species. One of the most utilized by native peoples in South Africa was the genus Sceletium, for which whole tribes would travel hundreds of miles to pick a years supply. The plants of the Sceletium genus were utilized as an intoxicant… Although primarily chewed, there are reports of it being taken as a tea (Jacobsen 1960) and also as a snuff (Jacobson 1960). Some Sceletium tortuosum herb, perpared in the manner of the Hottentots was procured from South Africa and the following experiments conducted: The first experiment consisted of combining approx. 50mg. of dried Sceletium tortuosum with another smoking herb, the one most preferred by the Hottentots. After smoking the herbs, it was immediately apparent that there was a strong effect similar to Cannabis at first but without the dulling of cannabis. Empathic feelings beyond normal were noted. There were no hallucinations per se, but there was a definite visual ‘softening’ in the appearance of objects and a subtle glow to everything. Feelings of euphoria were noted and a strong desire to dance and sing. This was offset somewhat by a slight, easily correctable effect on one's balance. The balance deficit was slight and temporary. After two hours the effects were still quite noticable but had waned somewhat. At this time I went to bed and had a good, restful nights sleep. The next experiment was the following morning when I ingested approx. 50mg of the powdered Sceletium tortuosum as snuff. The effects were unlike those of the previous evening; in fact, there did not seem to be much of an effect at all, just a slight uneasiness. After 1 ½ hours, I again tried some of the Hottentot herb and was amazed at the difference it made. The full effects of the previous night returned, along with a stronger empathy than before. The word 'oregano' is also used for this, the delicious Mexican wild sage, called Redbrush and Scented Lippia, the traditional Mex-Tex 'oregano.' Mexican Oregano is closely related to lemon verbena. Mexican oregano displays a very similar flavor toOriganum vulgare, although stronger and sweeter. Mexican oregano is best if used dry. Its essential oil contains many of the same elements as Origanum – thymol, carvacrol, and a number of other similar elements. Salt pork 1 Large onion, chopped 1 Clove garlic, crushed 1 T Chili powder ¼ t Ground cumin ½ t Mexican oregano Soak beans in water overnight. Pour off soaking water and add fresh water to cover. Add salt pork, onion, garlic, chili powder, cumin and oregano; simmer on low heat at least 4 hours or until water is absorbed and mixture is thick. Correct seasonings, if necessary. Makes 8 to 10 servings. Pollo Con Oregano: http://cheftochef.net/r/1/A01731.shtml: 2½ lb large chicken pieces, with the skin attached 2 Garlic cloves, peeled 1 sm White onion, roughly sliced 1 c Reduced chicken broth 12 Additional garlic cloves, peeled and minced 3 tb Dried Mexican oregano 2 tb Additional chicken broth ½ ts Sea salt (or to taste) Put the chicken pieces into a saute pan in one layer. Add the whole garlic cloves, onion, and 1 cup chicken broth and cook, covered, over medium heat, turning the pieces over from time to time, until the broth has completely reduced and the chicken is tender - about 25 minutes. Crush the minced garlic into a mortar with the oregano, 2 tablespoons broth, and salt and work to a rough paste (or put it all into a blender jar and blend very briefly). Spread the paste over the chicken pieces, turning them so they ar evenly covered; return to the pan and cover. Set aside to season for 2 hours. Heat a broiler or grill and brown lightly, brushing with a little melted chicken fat if necessary. 4 servings. |
