This is Starwest's nitrogen-flushed double wall silverfoil pack. These are viable seeds that will sprout. Radish sprouts are an excellent, pungent addition to any fresh salad, and are traditional on seafood thoughout the Orient. Marinated Halibut on Radish Sprout and Fennel Salad: http://fooddownunder.com/cgi-bin/recipe.cgi?r=142827: Prepare fish: Simmer raisins in vinegar in a small saucepan until raisins are plump, 3 to 5 minutes, and then cool. Cook onion in 1 tablespoon oil in a 12-inch nonstick skillet over moderate heat, stirring occasionally, until softened, 4 to 6 minutes. Remove skillet from heat and transfer half of onion to a 9-inchsquare glass or ceramic baking dish with a slotted spoon, spreading evenly. Reserve remaining onion. Cut fish into 6 equal pieces. Pat dry and season with salt and pepper. Spread potato starch on a plate and dredge fish in it, shaking off excess. Heat remaining 1½ tablespoons oil in skillet over moderately-high heat until hot but not smoking, then saute fish, skin-sides down, until lightly browned, 1½ to 3 minutes. Turn fish over and saute until lightly browned and just cooked through, 1½ to 3 minutes more. Arrange fish on top of onion in baking dish, then top with reserved onion and drizzle with raisins and vinegar. Cool completely, then marinate, covered and chilled, at least 8 hours. Bring to room temperature. Make salad: Tear enough fennel fronds to measure 1 tablespoon. Trim stalks flush with bulb and discard stalks. Quarter bulb lengthwise, then cut lengthwise into paper-thin slices with a mandoline or other manual slicer. Transfer slices to a bowl and toss with radish sprouts. Whisk together vinegar and oil, then whisk in sugar and salt and pepper to taste. Toss vegetables with half of dressing and divide among 6 plates. Remove onion from top of fish, reserving it, and put a piece of fish on top of each salad. Mound all of onion and raisins on top of fish, and then drizzle with remaining dressing and sprinkle with fennel fronds. This recipe yields 6 servings. The Tea Tree (melaleuca alternifolia) is a member of the Myrtaceae family and is an indigenous species to Northern New South Wales, Australia. The oil is found within the cells of the leaves, and as the Tea Tree is extremely fast-growing it is a constantly renewable resource. The crushed leaves were used as a general antiseptic by the Native Australians for thousands of years. Captain James Cook and his crew used the leaves as a substitute for tea, hence the name. Unlike the dilute tea, however, the concentrated oil should be used topically, not ingested. Tea Tree oil is an effective bactericide killing a broad spectrum of bacteria and a range of stubborn fungi. It is safe for healthy tissue and does not inhibit normal cell growth and rejuvenation. Tea Tree oil is a powerful organic solvent and will actually dissolve the lumps of white blood cells which make pus. The oil contains numerous chemicals known as terpenoids. The oil kills fungus and bacteria, including those resistant to some antibiotics. A single blind study has shown topical application of 5% tea tree oil in people with acne is as helpful as benzoylperoxide and hasfewer side effects. Tea tree oil contributes to an extremely effective antibacterial shampoo. A double blind study found 100% tea tree oil applied topically was as effective as the antifungal medicine clotrimazole for people with athlete’s foot fungus affecting the toe nails. Dilute solutions, containing no more than 5% tea tree oil, can safely be used as a very effective mouthwash. Unlike many antiseptics, Tea Tree oil kills bacteria as effectively in the real environment of the body as it does in the test tube. Its solvent nature allows it to penetrate into skin layers, even reaching inaccessible sites such as the fingernails and toenails. |

Momordica charantia is a member of the Cucurbitaceae (gourd) family, and a relative of squash, watermelon, muskmelon, and cucumber. Known as the 'Sugar Destroyer', this herb is historically given in cases of Diabetes and related conditions for blood-sugar control. Used as a tea, decoction or food additive. The vegetable karela or bitter gourd or hairy mordica helps to lower bloodglucose levels. British researchers have called this 'plant insulin.' They have found that eating karela over long periods significantly lowers sugar levels in the blood and urine. Throughout history, the extracts of karela have been used in natural medicine of their purifying qualities. Karela is a blood purifier, activates spleen and liver and is highly beneficial in diabetes. It is a purgative, appetizer, digestive, anti inflammatory, anti flatulent and has healing capacity. The karela has a strong bitter taste and can be compared to taking cod liver oil by the spoonful. These results show that karela improves glucose tolerance in diabetes. Doctors supervising Asian diabetics should be aware of the fruit's hypoglycemic properties.'* *British Medical Journal-Clinical Research 282(6279); 1823-4 1981 June 6. 'An aqueous extract from the unripe fruits of the tropical plant Momordica charantia was found to be potent stimulator of insulin release from beta cell rich pancreatic islets isolated from obese-hyperglycemic mice. Studies of 45 Ca fluxes suggest that the insulin releasing action is a result of perturbations of membrane functions. In support for the idea of direct effects on membrane lipids, the action of the extract was found to mimic that of saponin.'* *Acta Biologica et Medica Germanica 41(12):1229-40 1982. 'The Bitter Melon or Balsam Pear, is cultivated as a tropical vegetable in South America, Asia, and Africa where it has been used as a traditional therapy for diabetes in a variety of cultures of these countries.
