The above photo shows a culture syringe inoculation of Mushroom Bag Primary Spawn Rye Formula, and the bag being colonized by Golden Oyster, Pleurotus citrinopileatus mycelium, primary spawn, or primary filamentous growth, of the mushroom. The Mushroom Bag Primary Spawn Rye Formula contains just over 1 pound of pre-cooked and pre-sterilized rye grain that can beused for primary spawn generation with culture syringe injection through the self-healing injection site. The Mushroom Bag Primary Spawn Rye Formula bag is specifically designed for primary spawn generation. If you are seeking a Pre-sterilized Bag product for contained incubation and fruiting of mushrooms, please see our other Mushroom Bags. The spore syringe or culture is NOT included with the bag and must be purchased separately. To use, simply unfold the Bag, allowing the extra material to stand straight up. Locate the small foam disk sealed and attached in a plastic housing near the base of the Bag. This disc is the self-healing injector site. Note: The disc will be covered by a small plastic shield. Do not attempt to remove the plastic covering the disc, you will inject through it. Sterilize a small section of the outside of the Bag (on the plastic shield) directly over the foam disc with an alcohol soaked wipe. With the same alcohol soaked wipe, sterilize the needle on your culture syringe. Inoculate the pre-sterilized rye berries with culture syringe solution by inserting the needle through the plastic shield and foam disc at the previously sterilized spot. Squirt 1cc of culture solution directly into the substrate material. DO NOT insert the needle through the white filter patch found near the top of the Bag. Return the inoculated bags back to the shipping box and place in a dark, warm location (species specific). Allow the bag to remain extended so gaseous exchange through the filter patch is not blocked. Because colonization will begin in the interior of the substrate material it may take between 14-20 days for you to notice the spreading of colonizing mycelium towards the outside of the Bag. Speed of colonization is directly affected by incubation temperatures, please check to make sure you are incubating the bag at the correct temperature for the species you are attempting to cultivate. Typical colonization time is between 21-30 days for most species and strains when incubated properly. Once fully colonized the rye berry spawn may be used to inoculate other bulk mediums such as pasteurized straw, sawdust, hardwood blocks, etc.

This is Frontier's nitrogen-flushed double wall silverfoil pack. Some Frontier packs are double wall wax-lined paper. Although in Europe and the U.S. cinnamon is most often associated with sweet dishes, it has broad culinary uses. For example, in India, cinnamon is never used with desserts, but is the main ingredient in curries. In North Africa, not only is cinnamon an ingredient in Raz-el-Hanout, the flavoring of couscous and tagines, but appears also in Berber spices. In Greece, it appears in lamb dishes. And it is an essential spice in Chinese cuisine. Ground, it is one of the constituents of five-spice powder; whole, it is frequently added to flavor braised dishes. In the Caribbean, it is in Jerk seasoning. In Mexico, it appears with chocolate and chili powder in Mole sauces. In the U.S., it is used in barbecue rubs and sauces. Cinnamon is the bark of three bushy evergreen trees of the laurel (Lauraceae) family. The most fragrant and delicate cinnamon is obtained from the Cinnamomum zeylanicum tree native to Sri Lanka (which used to be called 'Ceylon'), the western coast of India (known as the Malabar coast), and Burma. Zeylanicum cinnamon is sometimes called 'true cinnamon' and 'old fashioned cinnamon.' But the 'true' part was just advertising copy for the Dutch East India Company's 17th century monopoly. Cinnamon is also derived from the Cinnamomum loureirii tree native to Indonesia and the Cinnamomum cassia tree native to China, Vietnam, and Sumatra. The cinnamon from the loureirii and cassia trees is darker and more pungent and aromatic than cinnamon from the zeylanicum tree. Cassia cinnamon is what most Americans are used to and is the preferred cinnamon in Southern Europe. So don't let the term 'true cinnamon' confuse you; cassia cinnamon is just as true as zeylancium. Neither Grieve, King nor Felter distinguish the cinnamon varieties medicinally – Grieve simply asserting that they all act alike, and King's covers all varieties in one listing, as 'The barks of numerous species of Cinnamomum.' Medicinally, they all act the same, althoughthere are subtle taste differences. Cassia cinnamon has a more intense and less fragrant aroma than zeylanicum (Ceylon) cinnamon. It is sweet, warm, pungent, and slightly astringent. Zeylanicum (Ceylon) cinnamon is pale in color, and more delicate, more fragrant, not as pungent, and not as sweet. It has a slight citrus flavor. Zeylanicum (Ceylon) cinnamon is more expensive than cassia, and better to use in sweet dishes and cakes. Cassia nips the tongue and is more suited to spiced meats, stews, rice dishes, curries, pancake and waffle batters, cinnamon rolls, and flavored drinks. Cassia cinnamon sticks are reddish brown, thick, and coarse in texture. They are the sticks Americans are accustomed to and use in mulled cider and wine. The dried roots of certain South and Central American Smilax species are the source of sarsaparilla, which has been used medicinally, but is now used mainly in confectionary and soft drinks. Genuine root beer is made from the roots. Sarsaparilla's saponins facilitate the body's absorption of other drugs and phytochemicals. The saponins are used by the body to synthesize hormones. Sarsaparilla has a noticeable aphrodisiac effect, thus explaining the popularity of old-time root beer in the saloons. Sarsaparilla is a medicinal herb of ancient Native American application. It has been used for sexual impotence, rheumatism, skin ailment, urinary problems and as a tonic for physical weakness. It was shown clinically in 1942 to dramatically improve psoriasis. It is also useful for acne, rashes and hives. It's anti-inflammatory and hepatoprotective effects have been shown in rats, and improvement of appetite and digestion as well as diuretic actions in humans has also been documented. Sarsaparilla has demonstrated the ability to attack and neutralize microbes in the blood stream. In the 1950's, the antibiotic properties of sarsaparilla were documented. Its effective use as an adjuvant for the treatment of leprosy was documented in a human trial in 1959. Sarsaparilla was used by the Chinese in the treatment of syphilis. Recent clinical observations in China demonstrated that slow-acting sarsasparilla is effective, according to blood tests, in about 90% of acute cases and 50% of chronic cases. Sarsaparilla is also known for stimulating the breathing of asthmatics and the congested. Grieve's classic 'A Modern Herbal;': 'This plant derived its name from being exported to Europe through Jamaica. The word Sarsaparilla comes from the Spanish Sarza, meaning a bramble, and parilla, a vine, in allusion to the thorny stems of the plant.' 'Jamaica Sarsaparilla was introduced in the middle of the sixteenth century as a remedy for syphilis, and later came to be used for other chronic diseases, specially rheumatism.
