This is Plum Flower brand's nitrogen-flushed vacuum pack. Plum Flower is one of the most distinguished herb houses in the world. Sulfur Free, Chlorine Free, Aluminum Phosphate Free. Sulfites are used to give herbs the appearance of freshness. As with dried fruit. un-sulfured herbs look different than those that are adulterated with preservatives. Herbs that are preservative free are more natural looking and are generally darker. The brightness of the herbs may be appealing, but it indicates the presence of harmful additives. Despite their appearance, unsulfured herbs are more fresh and safer than regular commercially available products. The use of sulfur, chlorine and aluminum phosphate was made unnecessary through the establishment ofPlum Flower processing stations in China. Herb harvesters slice and process the herbs fresh, avoiding the need to rehydrate dried herbs later to process. This first step is crucial, as rehydration leads to decomposition and thus the need for preservatives. The herbs are then packed and the packages vacuum-packed, injected with nitrogen, and sealed. The nitrogen process combined with the lack of sulfur treatment inhibits the growth of anaerobic organisms, resulting in safer, higher quality herbs. After opening, store in a cool dry place. The facilities in Lanzhou and Guang Zhou, China, scientifically test each batch of herbs before, during and after the processing to make sure that all the active ingredients are present. Herbs are also tested to ensure that the formulas surpass all FDA guidelines regarding heavy metals. Those herbs exported to the U.S. are voluntarily submitted to the FDA for approval. Finally, batches are regularly sent out for quality control testing in third-party labs to double-ensure that Plum Flower products are 100% free of pharmaceuticals, preservatives and dyes. The Lanzhou and Guang Zhou factories are so clean, they are certified by the Australian Government’s Therapeutic Goods Administration (GMP). Olive leaves have always had a reputation as a health-enhancer. Grieve's classic 'A Modern Herbal': 'The leaves are astringent and antiseptic. Internally, a decoction of 2 handsful boiled in a quart of water until reduced to half a pint has been used in the Levant in obstinate fevers. Both leaves and bark have valuable febrifugal qualities.' Modern research is centered on the olive leaf’s powerful antibiotic, antiviral and antifungal properties, which support the immune system and yet do not harm beneficial bacteria. Olive leaf contains oleuropein and several types of flavonoids, including rutin, apigenin, luteolin. Oleuropein has been experimentally shown to decrease blood pressure and dilate the arteries surrounding the heart. Oleuropein inhibits the unhealthy oxidation of the 'bad' LDL cholesterol. LDL oxidation is a precursor to hardening of the arteries (atherosclerosis). Mediterranean peoples, who eat plenty of olive products, have a lower rate of atherosclerosis than people who don't. It was found to be one ingredient in a compound produced by the olive tree that makes it particularly robust and resistant against insect and bacterial damage. From a technical angle, oleuropein is an iridoid, a structural class of chemical compounds found in plants. It is present in olive oil, throughout the olive tree, and is, in fact, the bitter material that is eliminated from the olives when they are cured. In 1962, an Italian researcher reported that oleuropein lowered blood pressure in animals. This triggered a flurry of scientific interest in the olive leaf. Other European researchers confirmed this interesting finding. In addition, they found it could also increase blood flow in the coronary arteries, relieve arrhythmias, and prevent intestinal muscle spasms. The 1997 Commission E on Phytotherapy and Herbal Substances of the German Federal Institute for Drugs recommends Valerian root for 'Restlessness, sleeping disorders based on nervous conditions.' 'Dosage: Unless otherwise prescribed: Infusions: 2 - 3 g of drug per cup, once to several times per day. Tincture: ½ - 1 teaspoon (1 - 3 ml), once to several times per day. Extracts: Amount equivalent to 2 - 3 g of drug, once to several times per day. External Use: 100 g for one full bath; equivalent preparations. Mode of Administration: Internal: As expressed juice from fresh plants, tincture, extracts, and other galenical preparations. External: As a bath additive. Actions: Sedative: Sleep-promoting' The World Health Organization also recommends Valerian as a mild sedative, pain-reliever and sleep-promoting agent. Valerian root contains many constituents, including essential oils that appear to contribute to the herb's sedating qualities. Contemporary clinical studies have demonstrated that Valerian significantly improves sleep quality without morning grogginess. Regular, moderate use produces neither dependency nor health risks. Valerian was included in many editions of the United States Dispensatory (Merck) since 1849, which reported the herb's effect on the nervous system and its ability to produce drowsiness and sleep. Various valerian species are still included in the pharmacopoeiae of many nations including Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. The United States Pharmacopeial Convention has accepted a valerian monograph for inclusion in the National Formulary (Pharmacopeial Forum, 1998). It is widely used as a sedative and antispasmodic in the United States. Valerian preparations appear to be candidates for safe and effective nonaddictive alternatives to conventional sleep medications. Valerian roots contain several compounds with demonstrable pharmacological activity. Valerian analyses have primarily focused on the essential oil, valerenic acid and valepotriates. In the United States, the essential oil and valerenic acid are commonly used as marker compounds for qualitative and quantitative analysis of valerian root and valerian products.
