The Wood Based Mushroom Bag is a completely self contained environment for the incubation and fruiting of wood loving mushrooms. The wood based formula of this bag is comprised mostly of a select mix of hardwoods especially formulated for wood loving mushrooms, supplemented with wheat bran, and small amounts of vermiculite for water retention. This formulation design proves to be more usable by live cultures. The bag is shipped with all air removed for easy packing. Each bag contains approximately 1 pound of wet sterilized substrate. The spore syringe or culture is NOT included with the bag and must be purchased separately. To use, simply unfold the Bag, allowing the extra material to stand straight up. Locate the small foam disk sealed and attached in a plastic housing near the base of the Bag. This disc is the self-healing injector site. Note: The disc will be covered by a small plastic shield. Do not attempt to remove the plastic covering the disc, you will inject through it. Sterilize a small section of the outside of the Bag (on the plastic shield) directly over the foam disc with an alcohol soaked wipe. With the same alcohol soaked wipe, sterilize the needle on your culture syringe. Inoculate the substrate (material inside the bag) with culture syringe solution by inserting the needle through the plastic shield and foam disc at the previously sterilized spot. Squirt 2cc of culture solution directly into the substrate material. DO NOT insert the needle through the white filter patch found near the top of the Bag. Place the Bag(s) in a dark location and incubate at species specific parameters. It is recommend to store the Bag fully extended as developing Mycelia will give off gases that will slowly expand the interior of the Bag. This ballooning effect is crucial for proper air exchange and culture development. Note: During drier summer months it is advisable to store the Bag in a humid location. Excessively dry environments may draw moisture from the Bag. Because colonization will begin in theinterior of the substrate material it may take between 14-20 days for you to notice the spreading of colonizing mycelium towards the outside of the Bag. Speed of colonization is directly affected by incubation temperatures, please check to make sure you are incubating the bag at the correct temperature for the species you are attempting to cultivate. Typical colonization time is between 21-30 days for most species and strains when incubated properly. When colonization is 90% or 100% complete, move Bag(s) to a location with indirect light (indoor light or filtered sunlight is best). Allow the Bags to receive 12 hours of indirect light per day (direct fluorescent lighting works as well). Some specimens, such as the Shiitake mushroom (Lentinula edodes) and the Reishi mushroom (Ganoderma lucidum), perform better if the colonized Bag is punctured several times on the side at substrate level. Candied Orange Peel: http://www.ultimatenut.com/orangepeelrecipe.htm: Total Preparation Time: 2 Hours and 30 Minutes Ingredients: Peel of 5 pounds of Oranges, Water, Sugar Put peel in saucepan and cover with water. Bring to boil, drain and rinse briefly under cold water. Blanch in same manner 2 more times. After third blanching, drain peels, rinse under cold water and, using thin sharp knife, remove as much pith as possible. You should be able to see some color through any remaining pith. Cut in shreds about 1/8 to ¼ inch wide While peels are being blanched, combine 4 cups sugar and 4 cups water in large saucepan. Bring to boil and stir to combine. Cook, without stirring, over medium heat until mixture makes thin syrup, about 1 hour. You will have about 4 cups syrup. Cover triple-blanched peel with cold water and bring to simmer. Cook until peel begins to lose raw look, 5 to 10 minutes. Drain and immediately, without rinsing peel, transfer to large mixing bowl. Cover with hot sugar syrup and set aside 1 hour to candy. After fruit has candied, place about 1 cup sugar in bottom of another large mixing bowl. Add peel and toss to coat well. Shaking to remove excess sugar, transfer peel to cooling rack set over jellyroll pan to catch dripping sugar. Arrange in layer as thin as possible. Place rack and jellyroll pan in warm oven for 30 minutes to dry. Remove from oven and leave at room temperature to finish drying. Peel will continue to become firmer and chewier over several days. When peel reaches desired texture, store in airtight container until ready to use. Makes about 40 dozen pieces. Each piece: 6 calories, 0 sodium, 0 cholesterol, 0 fat, 2 grams carbohydrates, 0 protein, 0 fiber. Mix with 1 tablespoon of soy sauce and cornstarch. Heat oil to boiling in wok. Deep fry chicken 1 minute. Drain. Remove chicken and oil. Heat sesame oil in wok. Stir fry orange peel, scallion, ginger, and chili peppers 1 minute. Add sherry, 1 tablespoon soy sauce, wine vinegar, and sugar. Then add chicken. Stir fry 2 minutes. Remove to platter. Serve hot. Serves 4 to 6. |
