This is pure vegetable oil. There are eight naturally occuring forms of vitamin E, but one reigns supreme: alpha-tocopherol. The other seven forms of vitamin E cannot meet the body's vitamin E needs. In fact, alpha-tocopherol is so potent that the recommended dietary allowance (RDA) for vitamin E is based on the body's requirement for alpha-tocopherol. Even the synthetic form of alpha-tocopherol, while beneficial, pales in comparison to naturally occurring alpha-tocopherol. Alpha-tocopherol is the predominant form of vitamin E found in almonds, safflower oil, olive oil and soybean oil. These are the sources of this product, the most potent natural form of stable vitamin E, d-alpha-tocopheryl acetate. This converts to alpha-tocopherol most efffectively in the body. Natural vitamin E source (d-alpha-tocopheryl acetate) has a relative biopotency of more than 136% compared to dl-alpha-tocopheryl acetate (synthetic Vitamin E). That is, the accepted USP biopotency factor for dl-alpha-tocopheryl acetate (synthetic vitamin E) is 1.00 and 1.36 for d-alpha-tocopheryl acetate – this product, the natural source of vitamin E (United States Pharmacopia, 1980). This official potency factor, however, does not take into account newer findings in vitamin E metabolism research. Recent research data demonstrated a higher biopotency factor, 1.76, for natural source vitamin E than the currently accepted USP definition. Only when LDL cholesterol is damaged does it become a threat to the heart. Numerous studies have shown Vitamin E to be an effective heart disease preventative. It also aids immune function and prevents osteoarthritis. Externally, it is healing to skin. It is an effective membrane stabilizer that protects the skin from sun damage, reduces fine facial lines and wrinkles and generally improve skin smoothness. Vitamin E oil is a common additive to massage oils and face creams. 'Oxidative stress' is the term experts use to describe the havoc wreaked byfree radicals, unstable forms of oxygen. Free radicals are by-products of the normal, everyday workings of the body, but they can be lethal to cells by destroying the important fats in the body.. This is Starwest's nitrogen-flushed double wall silverfoil pack. Native to Mediterranean countries and southeastern Europe, dill is now widely cultivated in Europe, India, and North America. The entire plant is aromatic, and the small stems and immature umbels are used for flavouring soups, salads, sauces, fish, sandwich fillings, and particularly pickles. Dill has a warm, slightly sharp flavour somewhat reminiscent of caraway. The whole seeds and the seed oil have carminative properties and have been used in treating flatulent colic. Grieve's classic 'A Modern Herbal': 'Theleaves added to fish, or mixed with pickled cucumbers give them a spicy taste.' 'Dill vinegar, however, forms a popular household condiment. It is made by soaking the seeds in vinegar for a few days before using.' ''The French use Dill seeds for flavouring cakes and pastry, as well as for flavouring sauces.' 'Perhaps the chief culinary use of Dill seeds is in pickling cucumbers: they are employed in this way chiefly in Germany where pickled cucumbers are largely eaten.' 'Medicinal Action and Uses: Like the other umbelliferous fruits and volatile oils, both Dill fruit and oil of Dill possess stimulant, aromatic, carminative and stomachic properties, making them of considerable medicinal value.' 'Oil of Dill is used in mixtures, or administered in doses of 5 drops on sugar, but its most common use is in the preparation of Dill Water, which is a common domestic remedy for the flatulence of infants, and is a useful vehicle for children's medicine generally.' King's 1898 Dispensatory: 'Carminative and stomachic, and used in the preparation of dill-water. The natives of India use the fruit largely in medicine and cookery. Flatulent colic and singultus, when due to disordered digestion, are relieved by the administration of dill-water or the oil of dill; the former in 1 or 2-drachm doses, the latter in from 2 to 5-drop doses on sugar. It possesses no advantages over the other aromatic seeds.' 'The 1997 Commission E on Phytotherapy and Herbal Substances of the German Federal Institute for Drugs recommends Dill seed for 'Dyspepsia.' 'Average daily dosage: Seed, 3 g; essential oil, 0.1 - 0.3 g; equivalent preparations. Mode of Administration: Whole seeds for teas and other galenical preparations for internal application. Although interest in soyfoods is rising in the U.S., due partly to recent discoveries about the health benefits of soyfoods, the soybean has been cultivated in China for more than 5,000 years. Textured soy protein (TSP) usually refers to products made from textured soy flour. Textured soy flour is made by running defatted soy flour through an extrusion cooker, which allows for many different forms and sizes. When hydrated it has a chewy texture. It is widely used as a meat extender. TSP has a texture similar to ground beef or other meat products and must be rehydrated with boiling water before use. Textured soy flour contains about 70 percent protein and retains most of the bean's dietary fiber. Often referred to simply as textured soy protein (TSP), textured soy flour is sold dried in granular and chunk style. TSP is 100% defatted soy flour. American Soybean Association: Textured soy protein (TSP) is made wholly from either defatted soy meal flakes or soy protein concentrate. TSP is used in a wide variety of foods, for example, as an ingredient with ground meat for patties, sausage, and meat loaf; and in vegetarian foods and stews. This product can also be fortified with various micronutrients and minerals. It is available in as either a mince/crumble or chunk form. The former is similar in texture to ground beef, while the chunks resemble cubed meat used in stews. It is a dry product, easily rehydrated and takes no additional cooking time when used as an ingredient in another dish. Shelf Life: The functional properties of TSP are estimated to remain excellentfor one year. The nutritional quality of the product is excellent for several years. Flavor changes can occur when TSP is stored under adverse conditions for periods longer than one year. Storage below 75 degrees F and 60 percent relative humidity will promote longer shelf life.
